What does it involve?

We offer a full selection of pregnancy screening tests and scans to give you reassurance during your pregnancy. The majority of our antenatal screening and scanning services is performed by leading consultant in Fetal Medicine, Mr Pran Pandya at our clinic at The Portland Hospital. Mr Pandya is an established and well-known consultant, widely published in the field of fetal medicine and brings vast expertise as the Director of Clinical Lead of Fetal Medicine services at University College London Hospitals, a world renowned centre for fetal diagnosis and therapy.

Sonographer-led services from our modern clinic in the heart of the city

We also provide sonographer-led services by a women’s health expert sonographer. We offer early pregnancy scanning (pre 13 weeks), and fetal wellbeing scans at our ultra-modern and newly opened clinic near the historic Austin Friars Square near Liverpool St in the City of London using state-of-the-art imaging. Our Consultant gynaecologists, Miss Wilson, Ms Flemming, Ms Swer, Ms Khinder and Mrs Pisal have a specialist interest and expertise in early pregnancy and can offer women in the early stages of pregnancy an Early pregnancy consultation and scan (6-11 weeks).

The services we offer:

Early pregnancy consultation and scan (6 to 11 weeks)

  • A consultation with a consultant gynaecologist at 6- 11 weeks including full medical history
  • Ultrasound scan performed by consultant gynaecologist
  • A collection of scan photos
  • Comprehensive written report

This scan can also be booked with our Sonographer at our location in the City of London.

Our Antenatal Screening and Scanning packages carried out by Mr Pran Pandya, consultant in Fetal Medicine:

Harmony Test / NIPT (from 10 – 32 weeks, on one / two fetuses)

Ideally, we recommend this is performed sooner, from 10+0 weeks

  • Ultrasound scan (10 weeks) with a Fetal Medicine consultant*
  • Harmony test / NIPT and discussion with a Fetal Medicine Consultant
  • The test results will be shared in 7-10 days
  • A comprehensive written report will be sent to you
  • Option for the written report to be shared with your GP/referrer

Please note, if you have had a scan in the last seven days there is the option to undertake this without an ultrasound scan.

If you have this with an ultrasound scan:

  • You will receive a collection of scan photos
  • Written report in hand on the day

Nuchal Translucency and combined screening test (11 weeks+2 – 14 weeks+1) ideal gestation 12+ weeks

  • Nuchal Translucency and first trimester anatomy scan (11 weeks+2 – 14 weeks+1) with a Fetal Medicine consultant
  • Combined screening test
  • A collection of images to take home on the day
  • Written report in hand on the day (scan)
  • The test results will be with you in 5 working days (up to 7 days total)
  • The comprehensive written report will be sent to you
  • Option for the written report to be shared with your GP/referrer

Anomaly scan

A detailed scan with a Fetal Medicine consultant to evaluate the fetal anatomy and development of your baby from head to toe. We offer two scans; early anomaly scan can be performed at 15 weeks – 17 weeks+6, and ideal gestation 16+ weeks. Routine anomaly scan can be performed from 18 weeks – 21 weeks+6 weeks, ideal gestation 20 weeks – 21 weeks+6).

The package includes either:

  • Early anomaly scan (16+ weeks)
  • Routine anomaly scan (20 weeks+0 – 21 weeks+6)

Following the scan you will receive:

  • A collection of scan photos
  • Written report in hand on the day
  • The comprehensive written report will be sent to you
  • Option for the written report to be shared with your GP/referrer

Fetal wellbeing scan (28 and 36 weeks)

The scan will assess the baby’s growth, blood flow and evaluate the development of the baby’s organs. This will be performed by a consultant in Fetal Medicine. A growth scan can be performed from 27-29 weeks and 35-37 weeks and ideally at 28 and 36 weeks.

  • Growth scan (28 and 36 weeks)
  • A collection of scan photos
  • Written report in hand on the day
  • The comprehensive written report will be sent to you, via your preferred communication method
  • Option for the written report to be shared with your GP/referrer

This scan can also be booked with our Sonographer at our location in the City of London.

Antenatal booking bloods

  • Routine antenatal blood tests include: full blood count, blood group and rhesus type, atypical antibody screen, haemoglobin electrophoresis, syphilis, rubella, toxoplasma, hepatitis C, hepatitis B, varicella zoster, HIV tests, vitamin D, thyroid function, CMV, blood glucose and urine culture.

Additional costs & exclusions

Urine dipstick and blood pressure will be measured at every visit to London Gynaecology, however if the urine dipstick test shows an abnormality the sample may need to be sent to the laboratory for further testing for infection and this incurs an extra charge of £78.

Harmony test / NIPT; if you have had a scan in the last seven days there is the option to undertake this without an ultrasound scan. Please note: the blood test will be performed by a nurse either on-site (a phlebotomy fee will apply – £55) or at two convenient locations, a short distance away at no extra charge, 111 Harley Street or 15 Austin Friars, EC2N 2HE (15 minutes away by tube).

Routine antenatal blood tests* are advised for all women before 10 weeks and these will be done at an additional cost of £540 if booking for antenatal care at The Portland Hospital.  If booking for antenatal care via the NHS these tests will be performed by the NHS at a later date.

Any charges will always be clarified prior to undertaking any tests, that may be recommended.

Our packages are available at The Portland Hospital and Austin Friars, City of London. If you are visiting us at The Portland Hospital, there may be additional hospital charges that will be billed directly to you by the hospital and the total invoice amount should be the same.
